Wiig led the show with a three-minute monologue that began using wacky video effects only to transition into a somewhat somber discussion of trying to celebrate Mother’s Day while social distancing — still rife with jokes and ending on a bombastic musical number. The previous show was led by Brad Pitt playing Dr. Anthony Fauci to poke fun at President Donald Trump’s crisis response.

The actress was a regular SNL cast member between 2005 and 2012. During that time and since then Wigg has starred in a number of movies like Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids (2011) and the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters (2016).
This season finale of Saturday Night Live marks the end of a bizarre, yet effective three-episode attempt to create a massive sketch television show from afar. NBC has also been airing other experimental programming to benefit coronavirus relief such as a reunion of the Parks and Recreation cast.
