Irving hurt his left biceps in Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, and an MRI taken Monday revealed a strained tendon. The team said Irving will be shut down for two weeks and be re-evaluated.
The loss of Irving, Cleveland's leading scorer and best player, for any length of time is a major blow to the Cavaliers' playoff chances. With 15 games left, the Cavs trail Atlanta by 4 1/2 games for the final spot in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland has a tough week ahead, hosting Miami, Oklahoma City and Houston.
Also troubling is Irving missing more time because of an injury. He sat out 38 games his first two years with a variety of injuries, including a broken nose, fractured jaw, broken finger, sprained shoulder and concussion.
